About the Move to Cure ALS

The Move to Cure ALS is the signature fundraising event for the ALS Society of British Columbia. The fun, family-friendly events unite people to celebrate hope for a future without ALS, honour those we have loved and lost, and support the people and their families living with the disease by "Moving" together towards a cure for ALS, whether walking, running, rolling, supporting or being present in person or virtually.

All funds raised stay in BC and the Yukon to support people living with ALS, patient care and ALS research through PROJECT HOPE. Our goal is to end ALS through the ALS and Related Disorders (ALSRD) Clinic at The University of British Columbia. 100% of net proceeds to the ALS Society of British Columbia will remain in BC to support patient services programs (60%) and research (40%) through ALS BC PROJECT HOPE.

40% ALS BC PROJECT HOPE

  • Through a partnership with UBC and the Province of British Columbia, $5.3M was raised during 2019-2020 to establish the ALS Society of British Columbia ALS Research Professorship at UBC, to hire a Clinician/Scientist to champion and run PROJECT HOPE.

  • PROJECT HOPE will combine ALS research, patient care, clinical trials together with support programs under one umbrella. It is our dream to END ALS through the ALS and Related Disorders (ALSRD) Clinic at The University of British Columbia.

  • The ALS Society of BC has pledged to UBC to raise an additional $20M to see this come to fruition. Moving forward, 40% of the funds raised from Move to Cure ALS events will continue to go to support research through ALS BC PROJECT HOPE until the cure is found.

Administrative Costs

Thanks to the extraordinary volunteers from TEAM ALS BC & YUKON, the ALS Society of British Columbia operates with less than 15% in administrative costs, ensuring that funds are effectively directed to the cause.
